Can you verify Instagram with a virtual number?

Yes, a virtual number can verify Instagram when it receives the code and Meta accepts the number. Meta may refuse numbers it considers risky, for example numbers that have been used many times or that belong to ranges associated with abuse. Contact syncing can upload your phone's address book, so turn it off if you do not want that. Professional accounts can show contact options on the profile, so review what is displayed. Can you remove the phone number from Instagram after verifying?

Often you can remove or replace the phone number in Accounts Center once the account has another confirmed contact method, such as an email address. Instagram may not let you remove your last remaining contact detail, so add and confirm an email first. For an account you care about, replacing the temporary number with a permanent one you own is the safer choice, because Instagram can use the phone for future security checks. Why won't Instagram accept the number or send the code?
