Microsoft Virtual Number for SMS Verification
Microsoft may accept a virtual number when it asks for a phone during account creation or a security check, but it can also decline numbers it considers unsuitable. SmsBuyz rents a number for one activation, shows the code on your order page, and refunds a pending order you cancel before anything arrives.

About Microsoft phone verification
A Microsoft account is the single sign-in behind Windows, Xbox, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Outlook.com, Teams (free) and the Microsoft Store. It can be created with an existing email address, a new Outlook.com address or a phone number. Microsoft may ask you to confirm a phone number with an SMS code during sign-up, when adding security info, when signing in from an unfamiliar location, or before sensitive changes such as a password reset. Security info can include alternate emails, phone numbers and the Microsoft Authenticator app, and Microsoft also supports passwordless sign-in and passkeys.
Why use a separate number for Microsoft?
- Creating a Microsoft account for a new Windows PC or Xbox without linking your personal number.
- Setting up a test account for developer work with Azure, Microsoft Graph or Store submissions that you manage.
- Giving a family device or shared console its own account while keeping your mobile private.
How to get a Microsoft verification code
- Top up your SmsBuyz balance (crypto; the first deposit gets a 20% bonus).
- Select Microsoft in the service panel.
- Choose a country with numbers in stock and check the final price.
- Buy the number and enter it in Microsoft exactly as the app asks for it.
- Copy the code from your order page. If nothing arrives while the order is pending, cancel it to get the amount back.
Microsoft tips before you order
- Use an existing email address you control as the account name, and add the rented number only when Microsoft asks for a phone.
- Afterwards, open the security settings and add an alternate email plus Microsoft Authenticator, then remove the temporary number if possible.
- Store your recovery code when Microsoft offers it; it can help you regain access if other methods fail.
- Do not use a temporary number to recover an existing account; use the security info already registered to that account.
- If Microsoft shows an error for the number or the code is not delivered, cancel while pending and choose another country.
Microsoft virtual number FAQ
Does one Microsoft account work for Xbox and Windows?
Yes, the same Microsoft account is used across Windows, Xbox, Microsoft 365 and other Microsoft services. Verifying it once covers the account itself.
Can I remove the virtual number from security info?
Microsoft generally lets you remove security info once other methods are in place. Some changes may require a waiting period.
Why does Microsoft ask for a phone at sign-up?
It may ask to confirm that a real person is creating the account, especially if its checks detect risk. The prompt can differ between attempts.
What if the code does not come?
Cancel the pending order for a refund, or let it expire after 20 minutes and it is refunded automatically.
Can I sign in to Windows with this account?
Yes, a verified Microsoft account can be used to sign in to Windows and Xbox. Setting up a device PIN or Windows Hello afterwards reduces how often you need codes.
How much does a Microsoft verification number cost?
The catalogue price for Microsoft starts at $0.2059 per activation. The final price depends on the country and route you pick and is shown before you pay.
What happens if the Microsoft code never arrives?
An order waits up to 20 minutes for the SMS. While it is still pending you can cancel it and the amount returns to your SmsBuyz balance; pending orders that expire are refunded automatically.
